We are aware of the media advertising that GP practices are able to support with weight loss injections.
We appreciate there is some confusion over this.
As a practice we have been informed we are unable to prescribe the medication, this is across all practices within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, as per our guidance below.
Should you be interested in the injection and meet the criteria the practice will be able to refer you to the weight management team who will assess your needs and how best they can support you.
In the first phase of the roll-out of weight management medications (between now and April 2026), people with a BMI of 40 or above (or 37.5 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds) , and with four out of the following diagnosed health conditions will be prioritised:
– Type 2 diabetes
– High blood pressure
– Heart diseases
– Obstructive sleep apnoea
– Abnormal blood fats
